More Notes From the Happy Hiker

Had a wonderful hike today -- felt even better on this hike than on Sunday's hike. My improved eating habits are helping immensely to mitigate what I believe to be wonky gallbladder symptoms. Thank goodness. :)

Here are some pictures of the woods and the trail:

The mountain laurel blooms have passed their peak and most of them have wilted away and fallen off. Bare laurel is everywhere now.

But the blooms were beautiful while they lasted, and during the hike, I kept my eyes open for lingering blossoms. And though they are few and far between now, I did find a few!

I bid the remaining laurel blooms goodbye with a "see you next year."

I didn't see any bears or deer, nor did I see squirrels, rabbits, or snakes, but I did make a multilegged friend. Meet Mr. Millipede. I also got crawled upon by a Grandaddy Longleg, but I didn't get a picture of him. Grandaddy Longlegs don't photograph too well. They're too leggy.

Last but never least, I have good news about my novel-in-progress, Heart's Chalice. A brand new character walked onstage last night, and he is exactly what I needed. I could hear story pieces falling into place all around him with satisfying clicks. Betcha I break 30K tonight on my rewrite!

We went walking(not strenuous enought to call it a hike) also this weekend, in a new-to-us stretch of forest. It was lovely and peaceful, we found wild raspberries and many photo-worthy blossoms, but paid for it all with multiple furious mosquito bites.

Hi, M.! Sounds like a wonderful walk, except for the mosquito bites. I've been remarkably lucky -- I've only had one mosquito bite in all the time I've been hiking during warm weather! I wonder if it might be the sunscreen I wear. It's just plain sunscreen, but perhaps there's something about it that helps keep them at bay. And oh, wild raspberries are so yummy. I ate quite a few wild blackberries today. Yummy, and gallbladder-friendly, too! At least for me. :)

Thanks so much, Bunnygirl! :) Yeah, it's been a great day. Can't beat a day on which I enjoy a wonderful hike and have a breakthrough on my WIP! :)

Good to learn you're getting the gallbladder problem sorted out.
Lovely pic, TL.
And congrats on the new character.

Hi, Leah! :) Yeah, I'm glad I'm managing my symptoms so well. The thing might still have to be yanked, but I can keep myself comfortable in the meantime and not allow it to interfere with the activities I love. :) And I'm tickled about the new character! What fun it is when a character shows up and helps things click into place. :)

Aaaah... you have no idea how good it was to see these pics. They sure made my stressful day slightly less. I sat and stare to them until I didn't feel like killing my boss anymore.
