...lying in the woods on my back, on a windy day:
Writing Update: I'm working my hiney off on Heart's Chalice, but you'll notice, over the next few days, that my word count (as recorded in my sidebar) remains fairly static.
There's a very good reason for that. My plot started to get unwieldy, so instead of adding verbiage, I'm storyboarding, using index cards. I'm discovering all kinds of nifty things and figuring out how I can strengthen my plot, which will require revision of what I've already written.
Until this process is complete, I won't focus on adding new words, but my time spent storyboarding and revising is well-worth it and will make Heart's Chalice a better novel.

That's a good idea to take a step back and assess before you've gone any farther. I've suddenly realized that I have NO idea how to weave a mystery plot with a romance between my two MCs and it's got me a bit befuddled. I may be taking a step back, myself.
In the meantime, I got sidetracked tonight having to come up with something for the Spring/Easter FFC, since I'm the hostess and need to set a good example. :-(
Happy Plotting! :-D
Oh, Bunnygirl -- I saw an announcement about the Spring / Easter FFC on Absolute Write, and then I completely forgot about it; I've been so wrapped up in this novel.
And all day today, I've been note-carding and revising my butt off. But it's been a productive day -- I've figured out a great deal, have already made some important revisions, had a couple of cool revelations, and I'll be doing more note-carding and storyboarding tomorrow.
And in the course of my revisions, I added some verbiage, which I will proudly record in my sidebar for Sven!
Good luck with your plot -- it's helpful to find another way of seeing what's going on on the story, to assess the big picture and pick up on connections from the eagle's eye view that one isn't privy to when down in the thicket. :)
Hi !!!
How are you?
Just a quick hello...I've been a lousy blogpal...popping around to say howdy though...
Cheers

Hi, Candy! :) Great to see you! I'm doing well -- working hard on a writing project (actually I have three in various stages of completion but I'm particularly on-fire about my current one). Thanks for coming by! I hope you've been doing well, and I'm on my way to your blog to see what you've been up to! :)
I enjoyed your footage of the windy trees. Although right now, at the reception desk where I'm covering for the week, all I can see out the windows is heavy rain gusting past us.
I hear what you mean about not adding word count just for the sake of it. I'm doing a lot of mental simmering right now for my vampire WIP. It's still my best way of creating.
Mental simmering -- great way to describe it! I do a lot of mental simmering before I start a book: thinking about the characters, the story, getting different ideas for both, developing some while rejecting others, it's like a big imagination stew, isn't it? :)
I hope your rain clears up soon, Julia -- we've had some rain, too, but today is a lovely cool and sunny day. :)
Storyboarding is fun and necessary, at least I've found. LOL!
Storyboarding and note-carding? Sounds like useful tools. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Now I'm not only having difficulty writing (although I have done a little bit recently), I've discovered that entire documents are mysteriously disappearing off my hard drive! Aaarrgh! I wonder if it has anything to do with Vista? Luckily, I had older versions back-up on CD, but that still means the revisions were lost. Worse than annoying.
Yeah, I stepping back too. It seems that after 25 years of writing, I still have problems with infodumps and "telling." Need to work these things out.
Anyway, good luck, Thomma Lyn. I'm glad your work is progressing so well!
Hi, Amy! Yeah, I recall you talking a lot about storyboarding on your blog. :) Up until now, I've been a "reams of notes" gal -- but I'm finding the index cards an excellent way to look at my story from the top down instead of bogging myself down in too many details from the get-go.
Hi, Michael! Oh goodness, I'm so sorry to hear about your computer troubles. Disappearing documents -- sounds horrid! I had a hard drive crash in September of 2006 and lost some precious data -- NO fun. :(
Thank you for your kind words, and yes, definitely try the note-carding -- I'm finding it tremendously helpful!
Don't ya wish you were at the top of one of those trees swaying with the breeze...
Hugsabunnybunches, KS....D
And Happy Spring!
Ohhhh, yes -- wouldn't that be delightful to be up at the tippy top of one of those trees. Such a beautiful breezy day that was. :) Happy Spring to you, and warm, fuzzy hugsabunnybunches (I love that word; it made me grin from ear to ear!) to you, dear ks!
