Thursday Thirteen #27

Thirteen Ghosts from Fiction

Since my novel-in-progress is a ghost story, I thought I'd do a ghostly Thursday Thirteen. So here, for your viewing pleasure, is a list of ghosts from literature, TV, and movies, from the creepy to the cutesy.

1. Casper the Friendly Ghost.

2. Beetlejuice, from the movie by the same name.

3. Banquo from Shakespeare's Macbeth.

4. Jacob Marley from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.

5. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

6. The Canterville Ghost from Oscar Wilde's novella.

7. J. R. R. Tolkien's Dead Men of Dunharrow.

8. The Headless Horseman from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving.

9. Sadako Yamamura from the Japanese movie Ring.

10. Rebecca from the novel by Daphne du Maurier (not a ghost per se, but she haunts the main character all the same!).

11. Twins from The Matrix.

12. Fair Margaret and Sweet William from the old English folk song.

13. King Hamlet (Prince Hamlet's father) from Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Note for folks who are keeping up with my progress on Seventy Days of Sweat: for the o'dark thirty writing session I just completed -- 2,233 more words. WOOT!!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

I totally forgot about Casper. I loved him when I was a kid. Great list!

Please visit my TT this week. Its 13 prizes (and more) that you can win in a contest that benefits a very special little boy named Parker.

Happy TT!

Great Ghost list and the Stay Puft scene is one of the best scenes in Ghosthunters.

I completely dug all those Christmas Carol ghosts. Remember that ghoulish specter one at the end? Christmas yet to come, the who takes poor Scrooge to the cemetery. It's fun to think Christmas in July!

Great list. Congrats on whipping Sven into shape. Haven't done much writing myself this week, yet (I plan to do some serious writing this weekend). Happy TT!

I always liked the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, such a great Halloween-ish story.

And who doesn't love Casper?

Great list. Hope the writing is going well.

Great jobs on ghosts. Loved that you included Casper and Rebecca, as well as Shakespeare. I'm all about names/nyms this time round.

I liked your ghost list. I was going to write a short 13 and got carried away, as usual.
Plus there's a lot of junk going on in this apartment complex today that kept me from writing in B&B. I got too tired fussing and fumming--and spewing unsavory things under my breath--and out in the open. Once I got it all out of my system I'm better. You'll see what I mean at the end of my post.
I just finished my 13 and I'm going to bed. You did good today on you words.
Are you going to join the NANOWRIMO in November? My daughter and her husband did that last year and I was busy with writing a novel already. But I'm thinking about signing up for it this year.

For me the most creepy are # 8 & 9. The headless Horseman scares me so much and when I watched "The Ring" I couldn't sleep for days...

Keep writing :)

Remember the Ghost and Mrs. Muir? I wonder how many movies had fairies in them. I have at least mentioned today.

I don't think I realized that The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was a ghost. I've only seen the movie a dozen times though. I'd better watch it again. :)

Stand back everyone. Give the lady air. She's on the Seventy Day Sweat you know. All tuckered out, poor thing, and now she's seeing ghosts!

I think I'm glad I'm checking in late on this one; I'm jumpy enough that if I'd been thinking about ghosts while camping, I'd have come unglued. It was bad enough that I was convinced I'd wake up with a raccoon snuggled against me like the cat does (didn't happen; too wet).

Neat list, though. Now that I'm home and can safely think about ghosts...
