1. Microsoft Word. My main word processing program -- one of my most-used links, since I'm a writer.
2. Outlook email. Not meaning to sound like a Microsoft commercial (I prefer Linux as an operating system and will soon be going in that direction), but Outlook is a darned good email program.
3. OpenOffice. A great word processing program I'm playing with -- I'll be using it exclusively once I switch over to the Linux operating system. It has all the functionality of MS Word, saves documents in .doc format, and because it's open source, it's free.
3. Mozilla Firefox Browser. Firefox rocks! And needless to say, with all my blogging and internet activity, this is a well-used link.
4. AdAware. Excellent spyware removal program, and it's free.
5. Spybot Search & Destroy. Another excellent spyware removal program which works in tandem with AdAware. And it's free, too.
6. Spyware Blaster. Yet another free spyware removal tool. This one knocks out the baddies before they can entrench themselves on my computer. I fight baddies on multiple fronts!
7. AVG. My antivirus software. I like it because it hardly slows down my computer at all. A free version is available for download.
8. Paint.net. A free photo-editing program. Can you tell I like free computer stuff?
9. Windiff. File comparison utility I use to make sure all my backups are current. And yup, it's free.
10. NX Client for Windows. This lets me use my laptop computer as a remote Xterminal so I can play with Linux on my Windows machine.
11. WordPerfect 9. I used WordPerfect for years before I switched to Word, and I still like WordPerfect's label and mail-merge functionality much better than Word's.
12. Shortcut to my computerized grocery list.
13. Shortcut to my computerized Appointments and Reminders file.

We use Linux and Open Office, too!
I don't like links or shortcuts on my desktop, so it's pretty empty! :) I have a lot of the programs you mention though.
Google helped me make my TT this week!
Hey did you get my email? I wanted us to do the same theme for T13 but you never got back to me :(
Miss you lots and I love your list. Will check some links out that's for sure :-)
Sounds like your desktop is about as cluttered with icons as mine.
I didn't link myself right. *sigh*.
The stuff you have on your desk top is more professional than mine.
I have Gerard Butler pictures, Mozaki Blocks, MSN messenger. I am such a slacker. Happy TT my friend.
Boy that's a lot of programs...I have hardly any. Except what came with the computer, Imovie, etc...and I love firefox...have you ever used the web site called "stumble upon" some of the best stuff on the web is gathered there...
Here is my list from an article I just read:
http://gnosticminx.blogspot.com/2007/05/is-fictional-feminism-dead.html
if you don't already have photoshop you should download gimp - it's free and how I made my new banner :)
My desktop has a lot going on too :) Great list idea!
You computerized your Grocery List?
... a girl after my own heart :)
My grocery list isn't computerized, but my list of meals we're planning for the week is.
I'm surprised you don't use Thunderbird along with Firefox, Thomma. I'm quite happy with it.
I don't always clean my kitchen, my house, or anything else that should probably be cleaned... but my desktop is always spotless! I wish I could get rid of that damn recycling box too! LOL!!! The only thing I allow to touch my desktop is the current WIP chapter by chapter... but it's scary organized!
As for microsoft Word - what the hell would life be like without it? Seriously... I know... type writer's blah.. blah.. blah.. but how the hell did people survive without spellcheck? Seriously! :)
Happy TT!
I use many of the programs you mentioned too (as well as photoshop and several other image editing programs), but I try to keep as much of it off the pretty photo on my desktop as possible.
My Sister has tons of links all over her desktop and they drive me nuts whenever I have to go do something on her computer for her. :-)
Your desk sounds pretty top notch, Susan!! I just use WORD, EXPLORER, OUTLOOK and ADOBE. Everything else is just decoration, ha!
My desktop is pretty cluttered - scraps of writing for my book, longer word documents and text documents that I use as a scrapbook for sites I've found on the web and would like to go back too . . . Photos and Thursday Thirteen banners.
My link to computer programs are all along the bottom - I use a MAC ibook so it does user-friendly, intuitive things like that . . .
Hope you're having a great week!
My TT is up - (more) photos from my trip to Greece.
I love posts like this one because this is how I learn what's out there. I am so computer illiterate and dh is no help.
And I'm going to have to check out the tip Harmony left about gimp.
Happy TT. Going off ot click on some links. ;-)
I'm all nostalgic, now, longing for WordPerfect with its non-eye-killing blue background.
Ah, the good old days.
And I really need to check out paint.net one of these days. I use fireworks usually, but free toys are always fun.
Have a good day everybody =)
I'm with Tink. I like an empty desktop. I set up a cron job (I'm using Mac OS X) to automatically move anything older than 7 days into another folder to get it off the desktop! I've been thinking lately that 7 days is too long and I want it cleaned nightly. I'm a terrible geek. ;)
But that's a useful list. I'll send it along to my PC friends. Thanks for posting it.

I didn't realize anyone still used WordPerfect! I had to switch to MSWord - the evil, contrary software for business compatability with clients.
I need to put a link to a grocery list on my desktop. I usually have a document where I keep my To Do items, but half the time I ignore it.
Great list! Thanks. I'm going to be downloading some of those today.
I like free too. lol
I don't save much to my desktop, as I like to keep it reasonably clear.. great TT
I sadly have stuff on my desktop that I don't even know what it's for. I like to write more than I like to click and type.
I like free computer stuff too!
Hmmmmmm, things I didnt know. Very interesting.
What a great idea for a TT. I'm not even sure I have 13 things on my desktop.
I use quite a few of those, well except I like incredimail for my email, and I don't have wordperfect....
:)
I have 6 of those mentioned on my desktop - but many, many more!
My Thursday Thirteen is finally up.
I cleaned off my desktop a while back, but it's all cluttered again. The good thing, though, is that my wallpaper is from Savage Chickens, and that's so cluttered that you can't see all the junk that's up there.....
Oh, wait. Maybe that's not a good thing.
I too, use Adware and Spybot Search & Destory program. It work well for me. I never heard/try Spyware Blaster or AVG. Hmmm maybe I should? I use any program there is just to remove these spams and virus stuff. Free program are always good things!
My desk top are clutter, but not clutter enough to be crowd *grin*...I wonder...where do we get a free photoshop program online?
I like Firefox, too!
I'm not a Thursday Thirteen gal but I love all the link ideas here. Thanks for sharing.
Yep, took me years to give up on WordPerfect ... but Word is the standard, and I finally made the switch. Sigh.
Computerized grocery list? That's a great idea!!!!
I'm a bit like Tink, in that I don't like having shortcuts and links all over my desktop. It looks cluttered :D I just have a folder opened on my desktop, and keep all my shortcuts in there. (Sure it's cheating - but it takes care of my compulsion to neaten things up :D )
